Mayor Bowser Announces Homelessness Is Down 47% Since the Implementation of Homeward DC, Hits 17-Year Low

(Washington, DC) Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser was joined by District and community leaders to announce the results of the 2022 Point in Time (PIT) count, the annual census of individuals experiencing homelessness. This year’s count took place on January 26, 2022. The results show that for the sixth consecutive year, the number of people experiencing homelessness has declined. The overall number of people experiencing homelessness in the District of Columbia decreased 13.7% over the past year and is down 47% from 2016 – the year the Bowser Administration began implementing Homeward DC.
