(Washington, DC) – Mayor Muriel Bowser is inviting residents to celebrate the New Year with the 7th Annual #FITDC Fresh Start 5K, which will be held virtually for the first time. Instead of gathering at one location, residents are encouraged to run or walk in their neighborhood, at a DC Public Schools (DCPS) or a DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) track, or along a suggested route available through the sign-up portal. Residents can register online and track their run time through the online portal to compare and connect virtually with family and friends. Participants who register can pick up a free #FITDC Fresh Start T-shirt and medal at select DPR recreation centers in the days leading up to the 5K.
#FITDC Fresh Start 5K partners include Aetna, DPR, Vida Fitness, Pacers Running, and various running groups from across the District. Before, during, and after their run/walk, residents are encouraged to tag @myfitdc and use the hashtag #FRESHSTART5K2021.
When:
Friday, January 1, 2021, 8 am – 4 pm (suggested times)
Where:
Anywhere in DC or at suggested neighborhood routes or DCPS and DPR tracks (participants can find suggested 5K routes and a list of DCPS and DPR tracks at the registration page)
To prepare residents for 2021, Mayor Bowser has relaunched #FITDC3, a citywide initiative to provide simplified health and wellness during these difficult times. The goal of #FITDC3 is to strengthen every body, empower every mind, and engage every community within the District. In partnership with AETNA, and executed by DPR, #FITDC3 will provide residents with free access to elevated health and wellness resources that support physical fitness, mental health, and stronger immune systems. This year’s Fresh Start 5K run/walk will be the first major virtual event of the #FITDC3 campaign.
