Mayor Bowser Congratulates President Biden on Using First 100 Days to Move America Closer to a Better, Stronger Normal

Thursday, April 29, 2021

(Washington, DC) – Today, on President Biden’s 100th day in office, and one day after the Biden-Harris Administration announced the American Families Plan, Mayor Bowser released the following statement:

“From the American Rescue Plan, to the American Jobs Plan, and now, with the American Families Plan, it is clear that President Biden believes in the possibility of giving everyone in our nation a fair shot and a pathway to the middle class. Our nation can accomplish so much if we have enough political will and the right investments. The Biden-Harris Administration has proven it is ready to provide both. This is what cities and towns nationwide have been waiting for – recognition that for too many, the status quo just isn’t working - pandemic or no pandemic - and a detailed plan to fix it. In just 100 days, we now have three plans. As the mayor of a thriving city, I hear often about the concerns of raising children when housing costs are soaring, affordable child care is scarce, and for many, it is becoming increasingly difficult to juggle work and family responsibilities. In DC, we are proud to have taken steps to support children and families through implementing some of the ideas put forth in the American Families Plan, including universal pre-K and tax credits that make child care more affordable. But we know that the most significant change will come when cities and states are not trying to solve these problems alone, and instead, we commit our entire nation to ensuring all our children have what they need to live healthy, happy lives.

“We congratulate President Biden and Vice President Harris on using these first 100 days to restore confidence in our government, to deliver millions of vaccines and get America moving again, and, in the midst of it all, to send a strong message to the nation that Washington, DC should become the 51st state.”
